70-270The test is fairly demanding and requires a significant amount of memorization, especially for the entry level position. After someone has been in the business for some time most of this comes natural. Thus it is probably the most demanding test since the entry level technician is entering into a brand new world of terminology and acronyms.
Passing the test only requires 505 points out of 900, but the failure rate is very high. One might believe that a 505 score would be easy to obtain, but it is not. It is not often that an applicant obtains a score in the 600 or 700 point range let alone the 800 point range. Many are seen barely passing, but all that is required is a pass, since the employer is only asking if you have the certificate!
Why the low pass rates and scores? The reason is simple, the wording on this test is difficult to say the least, and often times leaves the door open to some interpretation with many of the questions.
The benefits of the CompTIA® A+, and Network+ Certifications are recognized industry wide, and may be applied to either a Microsoct® Certification or a Novell® Certification.
For the CompTIA® A+ hardware exam we recommend that you get an old computer if possible, that may be setup with multiple drives. This way you can actually do some multi-boot configurations with a couple of different operating systems for the software portion 220-302 of the A+ certificate.
Keep in mind that the best insurance for a guaranteed pass is honest knowledge, and some hands on experience is a great idea. A certificate alone does not guarantee a job, knowledge does!
