Client/server networking offers a much higher level of security with NTFS partitioning at the hard drive, and a server operating system. Rights and permissions may go down to the file level, and be administered to individuals or groups.
A username and password is required with the client server networking system, where as with peer to peer it is equal sharing.
An example of a Client/server network is seen here in a bus environment.
The client/Server model is essential in either a LAN, WAN or MAN if security is a concern. The next step in security here would be to add permissions/rights to groups and/or individuals.
