We offer a number of free tests for Microsoft®, Cisco®, and CompTIA® certifications that may
be taken online so that you may test your skill.
These are by no means meant to make a determination of whether or not you are ready to take the exam, but they may
offer some insight into areas that may be weak.
The A+ (220-301) test, and the A+ (220-302) tests are fairly demanding for the entry level applicant and cover a lot of bases. So don't let their low passing score fool you! What gets a lot of new folks are the networking portions of these
exams, so be careful. Do lots of practice questions, and know your stuff.
The Network+ (N10-003) test is another fairly demanding test, even with 6 months of experience, since the experience has
very little to do with the exam. The exam and the real world are definitely two different realities.
If you work in the networking field, chances are pretty good that what you do and what you see on this test are completely
different.
Either of these certifications if not both are almost required for an entry level position in today's job market.
The XP Professional (70-270) is often times the first Microsoft® test taken by many individuals and it is not
comparable to a CompTIA® test. The difference is night and day.
Microsoft® test questions are long and very wordy, and missing one word in a sentence can cost you a question. The 2003 MCSE exams have a limited number of questions; approximately 50 and varies based on the number of simulation questions you
get, as well as drag and drop.
Also with Microsoft® you will get select all that apply, and not choose three or four etc.
Bottom line is that you have to know your stuff. Memorizng questions and answers will not work with any Microsoft® test. Keep in mind that they have a complete department that scours the Internet for braindump questions, thus they know what is out
there. The key to these tests as well as any test is understanding the concepts.
The Cisco® CCNA exam is by far the most demanding. Whether you take CCNA 640-801 which is a single test for certification
or take 640-811 and 640-821 for the CCNA, having your hands on a router simulator program is a must.
The Cisco exam is very fair, not wordy nor is it tricky, but you have to have a solid understanding of the concepts.
Also with the CCNA test(s) you will not have the option to review questions at the end of the exam like you can with
Microsoft and CompTIA exams.
When presented with a question, you make a selection and move on. If you don't know the answer, you move on, and accept your
losses. One thing for sure you better have subnetting mastered before sitting for this test.
